Salarievo Transport HUB

250.000 sqm

Russia

2013

Dyer along with its Russian partner Platforma, was requested to develop the concept design for Salarievo Transport Hub incorporation with John McAslan architectural practise. A number of major multi-modal transport hubs in Moscow are being prepared as well as the Salarievo project. These proposals form part of the Russian Government’s modernisation programme of major infrastructure projects. Our preliminary multi-level design for Salarievo includes park-and-ride facilities, car parking, metro, rail and bus interchange, as well as a significant retail element.

After a thorough analysis of the complex architectural brief and the various requirements of the distinctive transport links, Dyer proposed a strong separation of the car parking building from the retail element. This separation is achieved by a spectacular atrium, which became the ‘beating heart’ of this multi-modal transport hub through a spacious and dynamic interchange of various bridge links between different functions.

The exterior envelope is kept simple; functional but when the central atrium meets the façade it also turns into an external feature, expressed in a striking vertical and roof structure. The overall appearance of the building is easily recognisable and can be used as a basis for future brand development.
