Red Whale Shopping Centre Phase One

Red Whale Shopping Centre Phase One was constructed in Moscow in the 1980s’and has traded well since then. The emergence of neighbouring competitor shopping centres and the plans to construction red Whale Shopping Centre Phase Two has put pressure on the developer to refurbish the existing Phase One centre in order to maintain both tenants and customers. The anchor tenants of the mall “Perekrestok” are supermarket of home appliances and electronics “Technosila” and the multiplex “Karo-Film”. The client desired a radical ‘face lift’ to the external and internal image of the mall.

This recently completed Red Whale Shopping Centre Phase One, a 30K sq m refurbishment of a shopping centre in the Moscow Region of Mytishchi is designed and delivered by Dyer. The centre is now open and trading well. The project included the refurbishment of the facades including a new glazed entrance and all the public areas including the malls, food court and toilets.

This was a cost focused refurbishment delivering excellent value for money whilst significantly improving the shopping experience. White ‚clouds’ with integrated lighting have been introduced onto the extensive areas of existing red ‚egg crate’ ceiling to animate the shopping mall environment. New tiles have been cut into the existing floor to create an interesting pattern and dynamic rhythm along the mall. Structural screen printed glass balustrades have been introduced around all the mall voids. New glass clad escalators have been introduced. A large strip window has been provided to the food court area delivering natural light into the space. Dyer’s brief included wayfinding with supporting signage throughout the mall including the car park areas. The refurbishment was undertaken whilst the centre remained operational.
