Kosmonavtov

250.000 sqm

Russia

2013

Kosmonavtov Shopping Mall is a new Retail and Entertainment Centre of 250.000m2 GIA, which is going to provide a benchmark for all retail developments in the city. It is a brand new destination for the whole region of Ekaterinburg.

Ideally located on the main road, Prospekt Kosmonavtov, serving as one of the prime northern routes into the city centre, this development will not only stand out due to its respective dimensions, but also thanks to its state-of-the-art façades. The primary goal was to house a significant number of retail units and anchor stores adding key entertainment units which all together would contribute to achieving the standards of a true lifestyle centre. A place for costumers to visit not only for the shopping experience but to spend their free time, relax and enjoy.

The combination of the dramatic central volume and the spacious shopping mall with lush landscaping, abundance of natural daylight, detailed signage programme together with the carefully selected materials, finishes and colours of the public spaces will create the total family shopping experience which will offer tenants and shoppers a unique balance of convenience and unique identity.

The centre is located at: prospect Kosmonavtov, 108, in close proximity to the Metro station. 6,200 car parking spaces located on two levels below centre will be provided together discrete servicing. It is essential that an exciting architectural form is built counterbalancing the elongated façade geometry. As a primary goal the current design focuses to deliver a clear message of quality and excitement to the public.

Traditionally, shopping centres tend to be expressed as a series of box type forms that are adorned with signage. The concept for the Kosmonavtov Centre is to create an ever-changing movement in the facades which provides a memorable and unique building form.

The main elevation therefore is composed of large aluminium clad folded panels and undulating wave form clad with limestone effect panel system. While the limestone clad wavy, slightly cantilevered canopy on two separate levels accentuate the horizontal movement of the building, the vertically broken, folded panels will feature colour changing LED lighting for added drama. Specialist feature lighting, utilising computer controlled colour changing LED lighting will be used to illuminate the folded main façade and the underside of the limestone wave when dark.

At the main entrance in front of the metro exits the front elevation rises up to a fourth level to create a four storey high, glazed entrance atrium. This main entrance atrium will feature not only spectacular views but also will have a direct visual link to the roller coaster rides shooting through the void on top level where the main entertainment centre is located. Lighting will be utilised again to create a dramatic and exciting entrance feature.
