Golden Babylon – Kievskaya

20.000 sqm

Russia

2013

Dyer were commissioned to prepare the design of the interiors of this new 20.000 sq m GLA shopping centre that is disposed over four retail levels for one of the top Russian developers. The commission included the design of all the public areas of the shopping centre including the retail malls, galleries, food court and toilets.

In the very heart of Moscow, right next to Kievskaya metro station, Dyer delivered a brand new shopping mall, where we were requested to design the full interiors of Golden Babylon Mall. This retail centre forms part of a large mixed-use development, where offices and even residential towers sit on top of the retail podium base.

This high-density inner city development will be a prime luxury destination similar to Lotte Plaza. Due to the available limited site area in such urban location, the shopping mall is expressed vertically composed around a single oasis-like atrium.

We had to work with a given structural base, and had only little room to make changes or improvements. But the final result supported by a very strong interior concept was everything the client aspired for. The central atirum became the main feature linking all the floors vertically, while the sculpted flow of the wavy bulkheads create the desired canyon feeling we tried to achieve. The dynamic movement of the bulkhead culminating in the ceiling forms a very strong vertical pull and compel the costumers to visit the top floors as well. A state-of-the-art waterfall also complements this verticality.
