Perm City Square & City Mall

115.000 sqm

Russia

2012

Dyer in collaboration with Nordstar Developments, was selected to create a masterplan design for the central main square and park for the city of Perm. In an effort to reconnect the city’s downtown area and movement patterns, the design team provided clearly articulated set of guidelines to achieve a state-of-the-art new central hub for this large city in Russia.

The Perm Central Park and Piazza Redevelopment project is comprised of a new shopping destination hidden underground to allow the original urban tissue to be celebrated in the original intended format, being a larger open and inviting space, a gathering location for festivals, national celebrations bordered on one end with the respective City Hall building and the city’s National Theatre on the other end.

The big landscape moves were to reconnect with the pre-existing landscape through its specific ecology and by the design of abstracted landscape forms. New landscaping and pedestrian pathway system link all the new features. The new facilities, including the underground car park, and shopping centre are a core group of structures within the larger system, designed to modernize the park, develop a consistency in the park architecture, and link the program areas.

The redevelopment goal is to create a welcoming city hub capable of sustaining yearlong recreational activity, and to transform the park into a beautiful sequence of indoor and outdoor spaces. The new facilities have been designed using a consistent vocabulary of forms and palette of materials, while celebrating the existing monuments, and principle pedestrian routes.
